GOAL:

To familiarize pharmacists with the current treatment options for human immunodeficiency virus, the adverse effects and main drug interactions with antiretrovirals, and the appropriate monitoring parameters of therapy.

OBJECTIVES:

After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Know the appropriate laboratory and social parameters guiding when to initiate antiretrovirals.*
  2. Understand the role of different classes of antiretrovirals and how they work together.*
  3. Recognize possible drug interactions between different antiretrovirals and interactions between antiretrovirals and other medications.*
  4. Monitor for and recognize adverse reactions related to different antiretrovirals.*
