Schedule: Full-timeDescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES -
The Division Director of Pharmacy Operations is responsible for improving operational & financial pharmacy performance at all HCA facilities within the division to include but not limited to: medication safety, patient safety, resource utilization, financial reporting, performance improvement, use of technology, regulatory compliance, drug utilization, clinical education and staff development, management of appropriate drug utilization, drug spend analysis, and quality improvement activities.DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Provides guidance to facilities regarding JCAHO, CMS, NQSF, FDA standards, and State Board of Pharmacy Requirements.
  • Analyzes and evaluates detailed pharmacy expense trends in collaboration with the DDOP, Pharmacy Purchasing Analyst, and facility Pharmacy Directors. Based on analysis, assists in the development of a strategy to reduce pharmacy expenses.
  • Participates in quality improvement, fiscal and productivity goals and objectives.
  • Identifies best practices and trends in the pharmaceutical industry, division and facilities, while suggesting/ implementing activities to enhance pharmacy operations.
  • Leads and participates with multidisciplinary groups at the corporate, division and facility level to ensure key quality and operational initiatives are in alignment with organizational priorities. Provides guidance to facilities as it relates to implementation of corporate and division operational projects.
  • Serves as an internal consultant on medication/patient safety and quality standards related to medication management (i.e. State Board of Pharmacy, TJC, CMS, NQSF, IHI, and FDA standards).
  • Assesses facility compliance with operational regulatory requirements and assists in preparation for inspections as needed.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and sustainment of charge master standardization to maximize revenue capture and reduce billing errors.
  • Assists in the assessment and optimization of pharmacy workflows to optimize pharmacy resources and operational efficiencies.
  • Responsible to assist DDOP in the auditing of company-wide narcotic diversion prevention practices.
  • Responsible to lead and participate in development and implementation of processes for pharmacy inventory management practices.
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of operational pharmacy staff competencies.
  • Works with facility, division, and corporate team members to coordinates the implementation of division-wide standardization, utilization, integration, and optimization activities related to pharmacy IT applications (i.e. Bar-coded Medication Administration, CPOE, Pharmacy order entry technologies, Automated Dispensing Cabinets).
  • Ensures appropriate and safe use of pharmacy technology including infusion pumps, order entry systems and pharmacy automation.
  • Coordinates disaster preparedness planning for division pharmacy departments.
  • Evaluates opportunities for savings through division level contracting.
  • Assists in preparation and implementation of facility policy and procedures as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by DDOP.

Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge - Thorough knowledge of pharmacy hospital operations.
  • Organization - Proactively prioritizes needs and effectively manages resources.
  • Communication - Able to communicate (verbal and written) clearly and effectively to other health care providers including pharmacists, physicians, and nurses.
  • Leadership - Guides individuals and groups towards desired outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering quality services.
  • Customer orientation - Establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations. Able to work with diverse work force.
  • Policies and Procedures - Articulates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
  • PC Skills - Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other required operating systems such as CPCS, Order Scanning System, Automated Dispensing Units, Packaging Equipment, Physician Order Entry, and Clinical Integration to systems.
  • Financial management - Applies tools and processes to successfully manage drug cost budget. Understand basic accounting principles related to pharmacy operations.
  • Project management - Able to assess work activities and allocate resources appropriately. Able to work independently and handle stress appropriately.
EDUCATION
  • B.S. in Pharmacy or PharmD required.
  • Master degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • At least 5 years experience as a pharmacy director in a hospital setting required.
  • Previous experience in HCA preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE -
Active pharmacist license in state employed.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS -

Work will be performed in an office environment with routine trips to facility pharmacy departments. Must be able to stoop, kneel, and reach. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a telephone, keyboard, calculator, other office equipment,. Work is often performed under stressful situations. Must have ability to verbally communicate.. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations. Travel up to 50% of the time may be required to interact with hospitals within the division. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
