Many people may not know what a pharmacist does in the field of medical communications. What I knew prior to applying for my fellowship was that medical communications involved a company in the pharmaceutical industry, medical writing was involved, and there was a teaching component of the fellowship. Now after being a fellow for a few months at PharmaWrite and MedVal, I am beginning to grasp what medical communications entails. Medical communications involves writing and reviewing clinical trial manuscripts, working on competitive surveillance reports, developing content and attendee recommendations for advisory board meetings, and developing educational and promotional programs, just to name a few items. The longer I am a fellow, the more I discover how involved medical communications is in many aspects of pharmaceutical industry that are not discussed in pharmacy school.More »
